ASeTTS expresses profound concern over the escalating tensions between Iran, Israel, and the United States, and the growing threat of broader regional conflict across the Middle East.
Recent developments are driving fear, instability, and displacement, compounding the trauma already endured by communities throughout the region.
As an organisation dedicated to supporting survivors of war, conflict, and persecution, ASeTTS is deeply concerned about the heightened risk of re-traumatisation for survivors in Australia. We recognise the profound distress these events are causing diaspora communities, many of whom carry the burden of past trauma while fearing for the safety of loved ones overseas.
Together with our colleagues across the national Forum of Australian Services for Survivors of Torture and Trauma (FASSTT), ASeTTS remains committed to providing culturally responsive, trauma-informed to all individuals affected by conflict – regardless of nationality, ethnicity, or belief.
While ASeTTS is not a political body, our work is grounded in the principles of human rights and humanitarian protection. We affirm the urgent need to:
- Prevent further military escalation and the targeting of civilians
- Protect human life and uphold international humanitarian law
Alongside FASSTT, we call on the Australian Government to work with international partners to champion diplomacy, prevent mass atrocities, and safeguard the rights and wellbeing of affected civilians. We urge all parties to prioritise de-escalation and peace.
Now more than ever, we must uphold our shared commitment to human dignity, safety, and justice for all.
