What is Music for Healing?

A community-led creative program supporting healing, connection and belonging through music, movement and performance.

ASeTTS is developing the Music for Healing Program as part of our Community Development and Capacity Building work with people from refugee and refugee-like backgrounds. The program will support people who have experienced torture, trauma or displacement to reconnect with music, culture, movement, storytelling and creative expression in safe and supportive ways.

Like all ASeTTS community development activities, Music for Healing will be developed in partnership with participating communities. Through consultation and co-design, communities will help shape the activities, groups and creative opportunities that are most relevant to their interests, strengths and needs.

Participants

We welcome expressions of interest from people from refugee and refugee-like backgrounds, including children, young people, adults, seniors, families and community members. You do not need to be a musician or performer to take part. The program is for people who are interested in music, movement, culture, storytelling or creative expression in a welcoming group environment.

For more information or to register your interest as a participant, please email caro.duca@asetts.org.au.

Practitioners and creative professionals

ASeTTS invites expressions of interest from music practitioners, registered music therapists, musicians, singers, choir leaders, dance and movement therapists, art therapists, performers, facilitators, community artists, producers and other creative industry professionals.

Practitioners may be invited to contribute to workshops, co-design activities, group programs, rehearsals, performances, mentoring or specialist creative support. We are particularly interested in practitioners who can work in culturally safe, trauma-informed and inclusive ways with people from diverse communities.

For more information or to submit a practitioner expression of interest, please email caro.duca@asetts.org.au.

Community and organisational partners

Music for Healing will be strengthened through partnerships with community groups, cultural associations, settlement and support services, arts organisations, schools, youth services, venues and other organisations interested in community-led creative wellbeing initiatives.

Potential partners may support the program by helping to connect with communities, host activities, contribute creative expertise, support performances, share resources or collaborate on future community arts and healing initiatives.

For more information or to register your interest as a partner organisation, community group or association, please email caro.duca@asetts.org.au.
