The Families in Cultural Transition (FICT) program for Afghan new arrivals – Hazaraghi speaking only, will be commencing on June. The program helps people settle into their new communities by providing education and information about the new Australian way of life, so that they can adjust more quickly to their new home.
This FICT group will run over six weeks and will take place on Saturday’s. The dates are:
- 4th June, 9:30am-1:00pm
- 11th June, 9:30am-1:00pm
- 18th June, 9:30am-1:00pm
- 25th June, 9:30am-1:00pm
- 2nd July, 9:30am-1:00pm
- 9th July, 9:30am-1:00pm
Each program consists of 5-6 weekly interactive workshops with 13 modules available to choose from:
- Using the internet
- Money
- Trauma and Healing
- Positive Parenting and Effective Communication
- Gender and Domestic Violence
- Youth and their Identity
- Children and their Needs
- Nutrition
- Aboriginal History and Culture
- Australian Government and the Legal System
- Introduction to Australian Education System
- Civic Participation
- Human Rights and Justice
This FICT group is for individuals that speak Hazaraghi only. A group will be run for Dari speakers in a few months’ time.
To be eligible for the FICT group, individuals must have arrived in Australia in the last 5 years or less and reside in the Northern suburbs.
