The Board of the Association for Services to Torture and Trauma Survivors (ASeTTS) is pleased to appoint Liza Beinart as the new Chief Executive Officer commencing 8th September 2025.

Liza has been working in the refugee and settlement sector since 2006 starting as an Assistant Policy Officer at the Office of Multicultural Interests. From there she completed several years in state policy which further ignited her passion for social inclusion, multiculturalism and refugee settlement. She has been a voice for these issues across all her roles at both state and federal levels.

Early in her career she was a journalist and editor and completed a PhD in International Relations. She spent time working in Tanzania gaining field experience in 2007-2008.

She spent 10 years at Save the Children, developing, implementing and managing programs for refugee women and children, young people, First Nations communities, incarcerated parents and families with parenting challenges. Liza had two children of her own during this time who are now 9 and 12.

In her most recent role at Red Cross, she spent 5 years overseeing a large culturally diverse team and a suite of migration programs including the Humanitarian Settlement Program and a range of others for migrants in transition. In the last year she has been overseeing the Emergency Services programs delivering preparedness and recovery initiatives to Western Australians to support people through disasters and emergencies as our climate changes.

Having worked in various spaces alongside ASeTTS since commencing in the sector she has always admired and respected the organisation for the holistic approach it takes to trauma and healing. She said “I feel extremely privileged to have been chosen to lead the team through its next phase and am incredibly excited for the possibilities the role holds. I’m very keen to engage my strong interest in the global to the local connecting with colleagues around the country and throughout the world to improve recovery and healing practices for people who have survived torture and trauma.”

“I’m indebted to my colleague and predecessor Merissa Van Der Linden for the legacy she has left behind at ASeTTS and I plan to continue this journey of success for ASeTTS’ staff, volunteers, members and clients.”

We thank Interim CEO Fiona Reid for her support and ensuring a smooth transition during this time.
